Find out the cause before treatment
Different from many diseases, otitis media often occurs in younger chinchillas and is divided into purulent and non suppurative. Otitis media is caused by inflammation of the middle and tympanic mucosa, mostly bacterial infection. Acute otitis media, if treated in time, then can be completely dealt with. However, chronic otitis media can not be completely cured, but after treatment there is a great improvement, but can not guarantee that there will be no recurrence in the future.
1¡¢ Disease inducement
Water in the ears, choking of milk by sucking cats, second-hand smoke, colds and so on are the causes of tympanitis in chinchilla.
2¡¢ Classification and symptoms
1. Acute suppurative otitis media
Symptoms: suppurative otitis media, commonly known as damage to the ear floor. It is caused by suppurative bacterial infection of the middle ear inflammation, its symptoms are mainly earache, purulent, may also fever, vomiting and so on. The serious complications include intracranial complications such as meningitis, brain abscess, and other complications such as labyrinthitis and facial paralysis.
2. Secretory middle ear
¢Ù Deafness: can be in the cold, sudden hearing loss, compression of the tragus or head position changes, hearing can be improved.
¢Ú Ear pain and swelling in the ear.
¢Û Tinnitus: it’s mostly low pitched “boom” tinnitus. When yawning and blowing your nose, you can hear the sound of air passing through the water.
3. Catarrhal otitis media
Symptoms: chronic catarrhal otitis media, Eustachian tube mucosa due to a long time of congestion, edema, thickening or adhesion, resulting in eustachian tube dysfunction. Because of the long-term negative pressure in the tympanic cavity, the tympanic membrane is invaginated and the range of activity becomes smaller. Therefore, the symptoms of deafness and tinnitus appear.
Usually pay attention to the ear care
4. Exudative middle ear
Symptoms: there is obstruction in the ear, distension and stuffiness in the ear: there are different degrees of obstruction in the ear at the acute stage, and dizziness. Chronic patients only have a sense of obstruction. Hearing loss, acute exudative otitis media, upper respiratory tract infection in the front, hearing loss in the back, when the head swing, symptoms can be aggravated or reduced. The onset of chronic exudative otitis media is insidious, and the onset time is often unclear. Tinnitus, in the acute stage, there was the sound of air and water in the ear, and in the middle and late stage, the liquid accumulated in the middle ear cavity formed fiber adhesion, resulting in tinnitus of different degrees and forms.
5. Chronic otitis media
¢Ù Ear purulent: can be mucus, mucinous pus or pure purulent. Non dangerous purulence is thin and odorless. Although the risk type of purulent is not much, but thicker, mostly pure purulent, and accompanied by a strange odor.
¢Ú Deafness: varying in severity, it is easy to be ignored due to single ear disease. This kind of deafness, is proportional to the progress of the disease, that is, the disease is more serious, deafness is also aggravated. It is usually conductive deafness.
3¡¢ Diagnosis of otitis media in chinchilla
1. Is there any pus in the ear
2. Is there any hyperplasia in the ear canal***
3. Do chinchillas often scratch their ears
First of all, we should know what causes tympanitis in chinchilla, and then determine the pathological classification. Otitis media caused by a cold should be treated well. Otitis media is caused by water in the ear or washing powder sand: cleaning of local hair and external ear. The patients were treated with antibiotic aqueous solution or mixture of antibiotics and steroids, such as 0.25% chloramphenicol solution, chloramphenicol cortisone solution and ofloxacin ear drops. Then vitamin C, quankangsu and glucose were mixed, and then the drug was administered with 2.5ml water.
