When you hear the words feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), parents of meow people will shudder because it is so far one of the cat diseases with a mortality rate of 100%. In fact, is it so frightening.
1¡¢ Source of infection
Infectious peritonitis in cats is caused by a variant of enterovirus. Coronavirus a class of RNA viruses with envelope. Enterocoronavirus does not cause severe symptoms in cats, but exists in a balanced manner in the body. Only in the event of stress, this RNA virus will continue to replicate, the higher the probability of replication mutation. The resistance of coronavirus is weak, and most disinfectants can kill it.
1. Most of them occurred in cats aged from 6 months to 3 years old, but rarely in cats over 5 years old. It often occurs separately. The difference of clone and variety.
2. the incidence rate of cats in more than 4 cats is higher.
3. It is almost not transmitted horizontally, but has been exposed to urine, feces and nasal juice of cats with peritonitis.
4. the incidence rate is low, and eventually death will occur.
3¡¢ Pathogenic mechanism
After infection, if a strong cellular immune response appears immediately and virus replication is blocked, the disease will not occur. If there is only humoral immunity and no cellular immunity, exudative FIP will occur. If it is strong humoral immunity and weak cellular immunity, it will lead to non exudative FIP. The characteristic of exudative FIP is the formation of pyogenic granuloma beside the venules of different organs, and the non exudative FIP is characterized by granuloma. The inflammatory reaction first occurs on the surface of the organ and extends to the organ parenchyma.
It can be divided into exudative and non exudative, which can not occur at the same time, but can be transformed from one form to another.
Exudative: symptoms such as mental depression, loss of appetite, fever and abdominal circumference increase after infection for weeks or months. Dyspnea, anemia, dehydration, jaundice and diarrhea can also be seen. There are also phenomena that only pleural effusion or ascites exist. The amount of pleural effusion or ascites varies from a few milliliters to 1000 milliliters. Usually, when there is no abdominal pain or chest pain symptoms, the lesions have formed in the liver, kidney, lymph nodes and lungs.
Non exudative: the pathogenesis is very similar to exudative disease, the central system and the eye have a higher probability of pathological changes. The main symptoms of central system include hind limb paralysis, discordance, hypersensitivity, epilepsy, forelimb paralysis, trigeminal nerve and facial paralysis, sciatic nerve palsy, convulsion, hydrocephalus, dementia, personality change, nystagmus, etc
There is no specific and effective kit to diagnose, and the laboratory PCR diagnostic method lacks specificity. It is usually confirmed by autopsy after death. When the following symptoms appear, it can be suspected that the cat infectious peritonitis. Persistent fever, X * (exudative, pleural and ascites retention), neutrophilia, elevated serum globulin, albumin and albumin / globulin ratio were less than 0.6. Light yellow (light green), mucinous, inflammatory ascites, or pleural effusion. After fine needle puncture, there is liquid outflow. After liquid staining, there will be purple background light because of the high protein content.
There is no specific treatment, only symptomatic treatment
The exudative type can be used for drainage of pleural and ascites. Dexamethasone 1-2mg / kg, antibiotics and DMSO 2 ~ 3 drops can be injected intraperitoneally. Infusion therapy is necessary. Oral prednisolone 2mg / kg, twice a day. Very few cats heal naturally. The symptoms of some exudative diseases can be relieved under good care, symptomatic treatment and ascites drainage.
There is no specific vaccine.
